Zion National Park

One of the Southwest’s crown jewels, Zion offers world-class hiking (e.g., Angels Landing, The Narrows, Emerald Pools), photography, wildlife viewing, scenic drives, and ranger programs. Weather ranges from hot and dry in summer to cool and snowy in winter; spring and fall deliver the most pleasant temperatures. Expect heavy visitation year-round, especially in peak seasons. Early starts in the day or shoulder seasons can help to avoid crowds.

Places to Hike

  • Angel’s Landing

One of Zion’s most iconic hikes featuring steep switchbacks and a narrow sandstone ridge with dramatic canyon drop-offs. The terrain includes paved ascent, steep climbs, and exposed chain-assisted sections near the summit. Early morning is strongly recommended to avoid heat and crowds. Spring and fall offer ideal temperatures.

  • The Narrows

A unique hike directly through the Virgin River between towering canyon walls. Terrain consists of riverbed rocks and shallow to waist-deep water depending on flow. Late morning to early afternoon allows sunlight to illuminate canyon walls. Best in late spring through early fall when water levels are safe.

  • Emerald Pools Trail

A series of trails leading to waterfalls and shaded alcoves beneath sandstone cliffs. Terrain ranges from paved paths to moderate dirt trails with light elevation gain. Morning hikes provide cooler conditions and stronger waterfall flow. Spring offers the most impressive water levels.
